ISS SPOTTER® Tethered, a security drone for temporary surveillance

To ensure the security of assets and, above all, the public during one-off events or situations, ISS SPOTTER® Tethered drone is an essential asset that integrates into the existing or emergency security system. Comprehensive round-the-clock monitoring, incident anticipation, threat prevention, flow management of persons and traffic…, it provides a complementary, all-round view to assist security officers in their mission.

Very practical to transport and rapid to set up using its own video case, it can be deployed anywhere on the move to assist in crisis management situations. The real benefit being that you are ahead of events as they unfold. ISS SPOTTER® Tethered provides a new and complementary vision for informed decision making in complete security.

Augmented vision

Real-time global day/night and panoramic vision coupled with a high-powered zoom (x23 in optical and x200 in digital).

Continuous monitoring

A robust solution linked to a wired power system for uninterrupted hazard detection.

Remote control

Simplified remote management of flight parameters (take-off, landing, flight height) and video streaming compatible with your supervisor or from an internet connection.

Mobility

A transportable solution that can be quickly deployed on site. All video streams can be consulted on a computer or mobile phone wherever you are.

Operation of the tethered drone system

The tethered drone

Connected by a cable that ensures its continuous power supply, ISS SPOTTER® Tethered drone has a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer on which the camera is fixed.

The wired system

Connected to the drone, this wired station provides permanent power supply to the drone.

Real-time video surveillance feed

Provision of a video stream captured from the UAV (RTSP type stream) in hovering flight at a height of 50 to 70 metres:

  • Available on the monitoring station
  • Possibility of sending the video stream over a local network.

Complete aerial drone system

  • Drone with stabilized gimbal equipped with optical camera (X23) and thermal camera (X8)
  • Wired system for permanent power supply to the drone
  • Monitoring station
  • Autonomous electrical generator if no access to 220V / 4kw supply.

Human resources for piloting the drone

  • Certified drone pilot, experienced and with specific training in the use of the ISS SPOTTER® Tethered
  • Technician (as required).

Encrypted communication of your data

ISS SPOTTER® Tethered allows you to transmit the video streams to your security system in a fully encrypted and secure manner.

Precision video and aerial photography

Equipped with a powerful X23 optical and X200 digital zoom, the RGB (visible spectrum) camera sensor has a 20 mega pixel resolution with a rate of 30 frames per second for high resolution aerial photography. At night, the infrared sensor takes over for continuous filming.

Key features

Remote automated drone piloting

ISS SPOTTER® Tethered drone allows you to select pre-set flight heights up to 70m with local control or remote control by the operator from the security centre. Degraded modes are managed automatically.

The Human Machine Interface (HMI)

Easy to use, the proprietary software interface of ISS SPOTTER® Tethered offers you full management of flight parameters (take-off, landing, flight height…) with remote access to general monitoring features via a web browser.

Manual control of aerial imagery

The cameras of the tethered UAV are manually controlled via a remote joystick (3-axis direction/zoom) by providing a dual stream (EO/IR).
ISS SPOTTER® Tethered also has a photo and video recording function..

Portable video case

Very robust, the video case with its two integrated screens and its joystick allows you to supervise the video return and the piloting of the drone wherever you are.

What is a tethered drone?

According to the French regulation defining national standard scenarios and setting out the conditions applicable to unmanned civil aircraft missions, excluded from the scope of European Regulation (EU 2018/1139), an aircraft is said to be “tethered” if it is connected by any physical means:

  • to the ground or to a fixed structure
  • or – to a mobile or its pilot, which cannot be lifted or moved by the reaction of the tethered aircraft.

The main advantage of the tethered drone is that it can be operated without time limitation, thanks to permanent power supply by cable

What is a s3 tethered drone (flight scenario 3)?

Only the S3 scenario allows you to fly a drone over populated or sensitive areas. Aircraft without a parachute weighing less than 2 kg, or aircraft weighing between 2 and 8 kg equipped with a parachute and a circuit-breaking system, can fly in this scenario.

How does a security service work with the ISS SPOTTER® Tethered professional drone?

The monitoring service of an outdoor event or a site with the professional drone ISS SPOTTER® proceeds as follows:

  • Pre-mission briefing
  • Arrival of the team for installation at least 2 hours before the mission
  • Coordination meeting with the client to take into account the latest instructions
  • Mission possible with wind less than 50 km/h and moderate rain
  • Technical stop for 15min inspection every 6h of flight.

What are the conditions for using a tethered drone for professional activity?

The use of a tethered drone such as the ISS SPOTTER® wired solution requires a few steps of verification and preparation. A minimum of 15 days must be observed for a simple flight and up to 30 days for a derogatory flight (e.g. night flight in certain cases, flight exceeding a certain weight or height). Above 2kg, a tethered drone must be equipped with a safety parachute.

What are the regulations for use by the French national authority (DGAC) and what formalities are required to get a tethered drone off the ground?

Thanks to its Regulatory Department, Tonner Drones carries out all the necessary procedures to operate a tethered drone in a particular area, anywhere in the country. In other words, thanks to the declarations on behalf of the client, the ISS SPOTTER® drone can be operated in populated areas or in certain areas usually forbidden to civilian use. We take care of all the formalities within the framework of service, namely:

  • A regulatory analysis of the operation site (territorial, aerial…)
  • And obtaining flight authorisations from the various competent authorities (DGAC, Armed Forces, Prefectures, Aeronautical Platforms, Town Halls…).

As a declared operator, Tonner Drones and its entire fleet are covered by an Aeronautical Civil Liability insurance and the drones are registered with the Civil Aviation Registry.

Finally, all pilots are trained professionals and have the necessary authorisations to fly tethered and automatic drones.
