Developed by Elistair, the tethered-drone manufacturer, and operated by Delta Drone, the drone-services company, the automated Orion surveillance system was deployed at the La Ferté-Alais Air Show, providing support to the Larivière Organisation (the air-show organizer), SDIS 91 and the Gendarmerie as part of the security measures implemented at this major event with over 40 000 attendees.
The ISS (Intelligent Security Systems) division of Delta Drone, a major player in integrating the services of civilian drones for professional use, successfully deployed a tethered drone to provide security for this major air show that is known for its vintage aircraft demonstrations. The Orion tethered drone, fully automated and highly autonomous, was fully integrated into the event’s security and crisis-management system.
Designed to withstand very long flights (exceeding 10 hours), capable of covering large areas and fully automated, the Orion tethered drone created by Elistair performed several complementary services as part of the event’s security, on behalf of the Gendarmerie and SDIS 91:
• Real-time organization of the parking lots in order to monitor occupancy rates and manage traffic flow.
• Ongoing surveillance of the event location, in particular, monitoring areas close to the runway and assisting firefighters with fire prevention during the airs show.
Located in a closed-off area at the center of the event, equipped with a day-and-night stabilized camera with an X30 optical zoon, Orion made it possible to cover an area spanning several km2 by transmitting live and via the 4G network an overall view of the event to the crisis-management center. The deployment of the tethered drone, powered by its Safe-T tethering station via its patented micro-tether system, made it possible to reinforce security for the event. During the performance of its assignment, the Orion tethered drone detected a fire near the runway. The immediate availability of live images of the scene made it possible for the firefighters to put the fire out quickly and prevent it from spreading.
For these assignments, the drone assisted the La Ferté-Alais airfield’s security team. By providing continuous monitoring of the area, it contributed by improving management of the parking areas and decreasing fire risks during this event with over 40 000 attendees.
Pascal Auberty, CEO of Larivière Organisation, the organizer of the air show, gave his opinion as a professional in the events field: “What a tool! What a joy to be able to work with live, immediate images. Working with the Magec (Civil Security’s operating command post), this first experience demonstrated how efficient and complementary public and private entities can be for this type of event.
In addition to the convenience of being able to see and know the flow of traffic and attendees in real time, this is the perfect weapon for managing this kind of large gathering efficiently.”
Christian Viguié, Chairman and CEO of Delta Drone, said, “This operation demonstrates the expertise of the technologies developed by Delta Drone, and confirms the relevance of the Group’s strategy, which has focused heavily on the high-potential sector of surveillance and security. It also highlights the relevance of our investment in Elistair and the synergy between our two companies.”
“With remarkable advantages in terms of cost, time and efficiency, Elistair’s tethering solutions, which are currently in use in over 40 countries, represent an extremely effective and efficient solution for the optimal and secure management of large events. We are proud of the help our technology provides law enforcement and civil-security forces,” concluded Guilhem de Marliave, CEO and co-founder of Elistair.
Foremost manufacturer of tethered-drone surveillance solutions, Elistair develops innovative automated-drone surveillance and telecommunications solutions.
With solutions deployed over five continents and by about twenty governments, and a fleet with over 10 000 total flight hours, Elistair was quickly able to assert itself as the leader in the field of tethered drones and counts as its clients about twenty governments, the DGA (French Defense Procurement Agency), Thales, the US army, the UK police, Total, Aéroports de Paris, Securitas, as well as ENGIE and Vodafone.
